TRANSFORM is currently running the Open Challenge, an ongoing initiative that is welcoming applications for sustainable solutions until the 31st December. Social innovators are invited to submit their projects that fit in with our five thematic pillars.
The application process is simple. It enables Applicants to submit their ideas and adjust them accordingly throughout each stage of the initiative, while also encouraging collaboration within the community to build on and improve ideas together. Here’s how collaboration works:
- After submitting the application in the Application Creation stage, and only if the ideas are made public, they enter the ‘Develop in Collaboration’ status. They remain there until the second stage (Application Submission and Criteria Screening).
- To collaborate on improving ideas, members can click on the ‘Collaborate’ button at the top right corner of the platform to view all public ideas in the five categories of the Open Challenge.
- There are two ways to collaborate: by liking ideas and by commenting on ideas. To like an idea, simply click on the ‘thumbs up’ symbol. You will be able to view the number of ‘likes’ an idea already has. Members of the community can also ask questions or leave suggestions for improvements in the comments section of each idea.
The ideas that are successful in the first two stages progress to the review stages. These are undertaken by a committee of reviewers, both internal and external, depending on the stage, with relevant expertise. They include representatives from TRANSFORM partners and independent experts.
Funding & support
Successful applications, which meet all the guidelines and requirements throughout the Open Challenge, will be eligible to receive funding of up to £250,000. The funding is released according to key milestones, which are created and validated by a dedicated Project Lead assigned by TRANSFORM.
The Project Lead acts as TRANSFORM’s main point of contact throughout the partnership. They coordinate technical assistance and access to opportunities to collaborate with other teams in Unilever for the projects, which can last up to 24 months.
The main capabilities available include project management by the Project Lead, marketing, customer development, research and development, supply chain management and distribution, and specialist expertise, such as behaviour change.
