Syna Consultancy is a social enterprise on a mission to provide accessible and dignified sanitation solutions to people with mobility disabilities. In Kenya, people with mobility disabilities face significant challenges due to a lack of accessible toilets. This not only compromises dignity and independence but also affects engagement in everyday life.

As a result of this need, Syna has developed the Utulav toilet – a portable toilet providing those with mobility challenges in Africa with hygienic and dignified sanitation experiences. It has been designed to be integrated with existing sanitation systems, and provides safety and comfort focused on restoring human dignity, providing independence, and promoting good health. It requires no energy, reduces water use, and uses enzymes to digest the waste ensuring there’s no odour and the waste is safe for the environment.

With funding support from TRANSFORM, Syna will be able to produce and sell the Utulav toilet at scale to individuals with mobility challenges across Kenya, improving their quality of life and overall well-being. So far, they have provided 30 toilets to households, specialised schools and the hospitality industry. Their goal is to provide 100 toilets over the next year.
