With TRANSFORM's help, waste management enterprise Hasiru Dala increased the capacity of its recycling facilities tenfold and, in turn, provides Unilever's SunSilk brand with recycled plastic for its Naturals line of shampoo bottles.

"The funding from TRANSFORM allowed us to expand, increase and improve our plastic collection and segregation capacities, upskill more informal waste sector workers, and qualify to be a Fair Trade Guaranteed Enterprise by World Fair Trade Organisation. Doing so is helping our waste workers, dry waste collection centre operators and scrap dealers to get fair prices, immediate payments through the bank which improves their financial inclusion and creditworthiness enabling them to aspire to a better quality of life."

“When I introduced Shekar and Hasiru Dala Innovations to Sunsilk’s local team at Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL), they immediately saw the impact they could have together. While I’ve provided strategic support, colleagues from HUL have been the key people on the ground offering strategic business support and advice.”

TRANSFORM's support of Taka Taka Ni Mali, a woman-led plastics recycling enterprise, created over 3,800 green jobs. To date, it's also resulted in the recycling of over 1,500 tonnes of waste.

"TRANSFORM's support has been invaluable. Its team helped us become commercially viable and stop relying on grants. Thanks to their input, we have now set up a training centre, selling waste management courses to corporates. When TRANSFORM first got in touch, we had 15 community groups of waste collectors. With its help, we've created another 20 groups."

“The experience helped me become a more well-rounded professional and find further purpose through my work. The project with Taka Taka Ni Mali created the sort of impact I’ve always wanted to be involved in and I’m very proud of what we have achieved together.”

With TRANSFORM's assistance, TrashCon, who developed the first-of-its kind technological solution to segregate wet and dry waste, were able to expand globally.

"It's thanks to TRANSFORM that our company exists today. Investors didn't take us seriously until it came along. When we first met its team we had a proof-of-concept prototype. They gave us the funding - and provided invaluable expertise to help us create the right business model and scale up. Today, we have over 20 plants separating around 1,100 tonnes of waste daily."
