There is a supply shortage of palm oil in Ghana and the wider ECOWAS region (Economic Community of West African States), with an annual unmet demand of 35,000 tonnes and 850,000 tonnes, respectively. Meanwhile, the large-scale cultivation of palm oil through conventional methods has also been a major driver of deforestation, habitat loss and soil erosion.
Minana Services is rising to the challenge and is dedicated to producing high-quality palm oil rich with antioxidants and vitamins, while embracing regenerative agricultural practices. It bridges the network of farmers across Ghana, empowering them with training in climate-smart farming as well as supporting them to process their crop and bring it to market. This is simultaneously helping to unlock new employment opportunities for women and disadvantaged groups in rural areas as well as boost the local economy.
With TRANSFORM's support, Minana Services has expanded its operations, engaging over 20,000 farmers across the Ashanti, Ahafo, Eastern and central regions of Ghana to farm more responsibly.
