Behaviour change and access to essential products and services are often cited as one of the major barriers preventing Bangladesh from supporting positive health outcomes in rural communities and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
Jeeon provided a simple app that connected decentralised rural health providers, such as pharmacies, drugstores and village medics, to drugs, products, knowledge and tools to better serve their patients.
TRANSFORM’s support enabled Jeeon to test and scale its JeeonConnect digital platform, connecting micro-pharmacies to training, technologies, products and services that supported quality healthcare provision for four million underserved patients. Jeeon sought EY professional support to strengthen its financial and operational model, and develop a business plan for scale.
Pharmacies and drug stores are first-points-of-care for over 70 percent of the population of Bangladesh. Ensuring they were equipped with access to knowledge, information and personal protective equipment was crucial to tackling COVID-19 in rural communities. TRANSFORM helped Jeeon to provide COVID-19-specific support to pharmacies and other Informal Healthcare Providers (IHPs) by delivering a COVID-19 course to upskill pharmacists, a patient triage and surveillance system as well as behaviour change content to build community awareness. In addition, personal protective equipment for pharmacy staff was sourced and distributed.
