In India, informal waste-pickers are the largest contributors to plastic circularity but often operate in exploitative and hazardous conditions. As cities become better at waste management, waste pickers face the prospect of losing their livelihoods.

 With offices in Bangalore and Aurangabad, its services include: Total Waste Management (TWM), an end-to-end waste management service for bulk waste generators including multi-dwelling residential units and businesses; Event Waste Management (EWM), for hosts of events, from personal events like weddings to corporate conferences to sporting/cultural events; and Plastic Recovery Services (PRS), for aggregation and finer segregation of plastic waste streams, such as PET and LDPE plastic, for brands such as H&M and Cofresco to use as recyclates in their products and packaging. Leveraging partnerships with complementary capabilities, it has set up an organic wet waste to compressed biogas (CBG) plant, a mobile refill solution for home care products and offers a sanitary pad recycling solution.   

 With TRANSFORM’s support, HDI increased the capacity of its material recovery facilities by ten times, got the Guaranteed Fair Trade status from World Fair Trade Organisation (India’s only multi-stream waste management company to do so) and signed a deal to supply plastic waste to Unilever’s SunSilk Naturals brand in India.  

 It also won the prestigious Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry’s (FICCI) Indian Circular Economy Award 2022 in the SME category.
