Deshifarmer

Deshifarmer is an agri-tech platform that equips farmers with climate-smart tools and knowledge while connecting them directly to consumers.

In rural Bangladesh, smallholder farmers face significant challenges as the traditional farming supply chain is inefficient with multiple intermediaries, resulting in low profit margins and increased food waste. These farmers often lack the resources and knowledge to implement efficient agricultural practices which often lead to reduced crop yields and income. The agricultural sector is also a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, through deforestation and the use of chemical pesticides and fertilisers, further exacerbating environmental issues.

Deshifarmer integrates climate-smart practices such as intercropping techniques and efficient water management, digital traceability, and financial support to enhance productivity, ensure sustainable practices, and streamline market access. It equips farmers with advanced tools and knowledge, enabling them to adopt environmentally friendly farming techniques that increase crop yields and reduce emissions. The platform also connects farmers directly to consumers, cutting out intermediaries and increasing farmers' income while ensuring safe, traceable food products for consumers.

TRANSFORM's support will help scale these initiatives, promoting climate-smart agriculture on a larger scale to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing market access to increase farmers' income.

In its first year, the project is expected to benefit 3,000 farmers and 20,000 consumers. This expansion will ensure that marginalised communities gain access to the platform's resources and benefits. By addressing critical issues in the agricultural sector and promoting sustainable practices, Deshifarmer, with TRANSFORM’s support, will make a significant impact on rural livelihoods and environmental sustainability in Bangladesh.
