    Scrapays

    Area of Focus:
    Waste-Free World
    Geography:
    Nigeria

By 2050, Sub-Saharan Africa is predicted to produce 516 million tonnes of waste a year. Currently, the region's recycling rate is only 4%. This low rate is primarily due to a lack of business support for micro-enterprises in the waste sector and the absence of mechanisms to monitor material recovery data. As a result, opportunities for effective waste management and recycling are significantly limited.

Scrapays offers a solution by equipping entrepreneurs with essential tools to streamline their scrap businesses to process and re-use discarded materials that still hold economic value. This includes an inventory management system, a wallet system tied to phone numbers for easy transactions, and logistics support for seamless operations. Through these tools, Scrapays helps micro-businesses scale, increasing material recovery and contributing to a stronger recycling ecosystem in Africa.

With the support of TRANSFORM, Scrapays is poised to boost its material recovery by 3.5 times and expand its agent network by five times. This growth will drive a more impactful recycling sector and create entrepreneurial opportunities across Sub-Saharan Africa.
