On September 2015, 193 UN member states agreed on 17 Sustainable Development Goals, setting out a vision to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all by 2030. Unprecedented in scope and ambition, this new sustainable development agenda calls on governments, civil society, the private sector, and all of us as individuals to get involved and do our part.
TRANSFORM is a joint initiative between Unilever and the Department for International Development (DFID) and is a powerful tool in delivering against the Sustainable Development Goals.
At TRANSFORM, we are on a mission to collaborate with innovators to reduce poverty and make sustainable living commonplace. Together, we will help 100 million people access products and services that have been shown to improve health, livelihoods, the environment or well-being by 2025. Specifically, we are looking to support market-based solutions to meet the needs of low-income households in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia.
TRANSFORM supports several Sustainable Development Goals, but it is most directly aligned with:
• Clean Water and Sanitation (Goal 6) that aims to ensure safe and affordable water for everyone in the world, as well as equal access to sanitation and hygiene;
• Affordable and Clean Energy (Goal 7) that focuses on assuring affordable, reliable and modern energy for all by 2030;
• Decent Work and Economic Growth (Goal 8) that works towards full and productive employment for both men and women to stimulate sustained, inclusive economic growth;
• Partnering for the Goals (Goal 17) that aims to encourage and promote effective public, public-private and civil society partnerships.
Only through collaboration at local, national and global levels can we hope to tackle such a challenging agenda and contribute to meaningful change for the world’s poorest. By joining forces, and finding and scaling new solutions, we can build a safer, more equitable and more resilient world for everyone, goal by goal.
